LIFE'S LOOT
     by Hilma (Volcano) Volk

Yesterday I sat on the front porch
For a while past supper time,
Thinking about all the good things
And about my life of crime.

Tonight I'll steal the sunset,
Pink and purple and of gold,
And hide it in my heart
To treasure when I'm old.

I've captured flocks of snow geese,
And hoarded thunder storms,
Stole the echo of a bugling elk,
Snatched the wet calf in my arms.

So many things I've taken,
Not one of them I've earned.
But when you grab the jewels of life
You're not asked they be returned.

THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE
OCCUR ALL THE TIME
BUT MOST OF US
ARE TOO BUSY

(Or too worried, or too depressed,
or too upset)
