Here is a song I composed several years ago, that I always sing whenever
there is a full moon out.
" Inspired By The Full Moon"
04 July 1993 Salt Lake City, Utah
Words and Music by: John Robert Mallernee
CHORUS:
When the full moon climbs over the mountain
Shining cold and lonesome up above:
Like a lone wolf howling through the darkness,
My heart aches for a woman I can love.
Hear that locomotive cross the desert
As it wails and thunders through the night:
And I know it's time to wander onward;
Find the love who'll make my world all right.
VERSE # 1:
Somewhere out there, beyond the far horizon,
Lies a destined answer to a prayer.
There's a woman; lonely, lost, and looking
For someone to come and rescue her out there.
REPEAT CHORUS:
VERSE # 2:
In a plane, I'll fly across the heavens.
In a ship, I'll sail across the sea.
Through hot jungle and the freezing tundra,
Fight my way to true love's victory!
REPEAT CHORUS:
VERSE # 3:
It's not right to live without a woman.
No one knows the lonely tears I've cried.
So, I'll search, as all the world I wander,
Until at last, my true love's by my side.
REPEAT CHORUS:
FINISH:
When the full moon climbs over the mountains . . .

This is my favorite of all the songs I've composed. In addition to my guitar
accompaniment, there are brief interludes of Indian tom-toms, and I get to
yodel. Not only that, I end it with a loud Indian war whoop! I love it,
especially when it unexpectedly scares the hell out of folks who are
listening!!!!
High Lonesome
Tuesday 20 January 1998, Saint Anthony, Idaho
Words and Music by: John Robert Mallernee
VERSE # 1:
 Up into the high lonesome country of the great American West;
That's where this city cowboy can set his mind at rest.
Down here in civilization, everything I do is wrong.
My heart is always broken. Can't you hear it in my song?
BRIEF SOUND OF INDIAN TOM-TOMS:
Alone and lost in these mountains, I will sing with the wind.
I can be happy. I can have freedom and live again.
Music of these mountains soothes my pain for a while.
I am one with God and nature, and we smile!
VERSE # 2:
Up into the high lonesome country where tumbleweeds roll,
The wind is always moving, as it whispers to your soul:
"Cowboy, keep on riding across this sacred land.
Legends live forever you can understand!"
BRIEF SOUND OF INDIAN TOM-TOMS:
Ride to the high lonesome. You will find you have a friend.
There is music all around you on the wind.
>From the dust of by-gone ages, ancient voices cry aloud,
"Cowboy, ride the high and lonesome, and be proud!"
VERSE # 3:
Up into the high lonesome country, where still, the outlaws roam;
Drums of ancient warriors pound from their tribal home.
This land is just as savage as it was so long ago.
In this high lonesome country, there's still some buffalo.
BRIEF SOUND OF INDIAN TOM-TOMS:
Like the ones who went before you, go and seek wilderness.
You must break free and find yourself some happiness.
Challenge the high lonesome in the modern Wild West
Where the music of these mountains is still the best!
YODELLING, FOLLOWED BY GUITAR STRUMMING AND RAPID DRUMMING,
CLIMAXED BY LOUD INDIAN WAR SHRIEK.

The reason for the odd title of this song, is that the inspiration hit me
while I was sound asleep.
From A Dream
Wednesday 08 April 1998, Saint Anthony, Idaho
Words and Music by: John Robert Mallernee
VERSE # 1:
Don't you know I loved you so? It broke my heart to see you go.
All I can do is write about you in a song.
You were the only wife I had. But, I treated you so bad.
It's no wonder that you finally said "So long!"
CHORUS:
Our wedding picture's on the wall. All night long, your name I call.
But, I stopped crying over you long ago.
Each night, upon my knees, I pray for God to see that you're okay.
You're just an old memory I used to know.
VERSE # 2:
All night long, there's rage and pain. I go out walking through the rain
Searching for a way to get my head on straight.
But, I live with what I've done. Why bother blaming anyone?
But, the change within my heart has come too late!
REPEAT CHORUS:
VERSE # 3:
Since you dropped out of my sight, I have regrets each lonely
night. It was me, and me alone, who caused this pain.
I thought I saw you on the street. I almost passed out at her feet.
It's a miracle I haven't gone insane!
REPEAT CHORUS:
VERSE # 4:
Yes, my life must still go on. Man's not meant to be alone.
Every heart has to feel the flame of love.
Within my brain, somewhere deep, your memory will always keep
'Til the angels call me home to God above.
REPEAT CHORUS TWICE
THEN FINISH BY REPEATING LAST LINE OF CHORUS
